Introduction to Metabolic Testing, Functional Nutrition and Neurology for Pre-Diabetic and Diabetic Conditions

Did you know that as of 2007 – 23.6 million in U.S have been diagnosed with diabetes.

Furthermore, it leads to #1 new cause of blindness in U.S, leads to #1 new cause of kidney failure in U.S, 60-70% of diabetics have some form of peripheral neuropathy, and last but not least, of those, 60-70% most have sexual dysfunction.

And what is your doctor doing about it?

Giving you insulin. That’s what.

Along with blood sugar lower drugs like Metformin, Glucophage, Fortamet, Glumetza, Riomet are used.

The problem with these medications (as is the problem with a lot of prescriptions) is that the medication neglects to get to the root cause of the problem, and over time, the effectiveness declines with time.

Because your pancreas stops listening.

Understanding how your body should be using blood sugar, and what other systems in the body control blood sugar will help get to the root cause of your diabetes problem.

You see, your cells in your body (all 100 TRILLION of them) need glucose to make energy (ATP)

It is Insulin’s job to open up the cells so that glucose in the blood can get into the cells

On the flip side, when your blood sugar drops too low, cortisol from your adrenal glands elevates blood sugar levels.

But your adrenal glands are also your stress glands. Meaning, when you are stressed, repeatedly, your adrenal glands make cortisol, cortisol raises blood sugar, causing an increase in insulin.

High levels of insulin will eventually lead to insulin resistance and diabetes.

By focusing on giving you insulin or “insulin-like” medications, your doctors are trying to help with your insulin resistance.

But, eventually, your cells develop further insulin resistance, and the medications are no longer affective.

That’s why understanding what else controls your blood sugar is so important.

The 5 following systems must be properly tested and working properly if you have any chance of reversing your diabetes:

  1. Pancreas: insulin puts glucose into the cell for energy
  2. Adrenal Glands: cortisol elevates blood sugar when needed (physical stress, exercise, sleep)
  3. Thyroid Hormone: helps with glucose metabolism
  4. Liver: major storage site of glucose (glycogen)
  5. Proper Gut Function: 70-80% of your immune system is in your gut

All 5 have to function properly!

Any factors that influence the above systems will also influence your diabetes.

Things like hidden food sensitivity (to wheat, dairy, corn, soy, oats, rice, eggs, quinoa, etc), Hidden gut infections, Poor diet, Anemias, and emotional stressors, are all examples.

Liver factors like medications, nutrient depleted diets, and alcohol consumption will also influence uncontrolled blood sugar levels.

As part of the fundamental Diabetes Recovery Strategies we use at Boca Health Care Center, the keys are:

  1. Controlling insulin and cortisol levels
  2. Making sure thyroid and liver function are proper
  3. Proper gut function
  4. Food sensitivities (gluten, dairy, soy…)
  5. Gut infections

But what makes our Diabetes Recovery Protocol so effective is our focus on the Neurological Consequences of Diabetes.

You see, when your blood sugar is uncontrolled for a long period of time, the following changes will occur:

  • Decreased sensory input to ALL of brain
  • Can cause dysfunction ANYWHERE in the brain
  • Can cause focal vascular lesions in multiple brain areas

All leading to neuro-degeneration!

This is What Makes Our Office Different From Every Other Doctor That You Have Seen.

Our Diabetes Recovery Protocol combines both a Neurological and Metabolic approach.

By getting to the root cause of your problem, we believe at Boca Health Center can actually reverse diabetes.

With proper testing, proper neurological brain based procedures, your diabetes nightmare can be a thing of the past.
